Illinois police responded to a welfare check call from an ex-boyfriend on April 4, 2026. He told the officer that his ex left their three children, aged 2, 6, and 11, alone at the Decatur home. They were not together, but he told the police he saw her post on social media.

He also told them they broke up four days ago, and she pepper-sprayed him and broke his front window. However, there was more to the story. The police went to the home to check on the kids. The 11-year-old was reluctant to talk to the officer and told them their mother was not out of town. He said, “She’s close. Not out of town. She’s nowhere near out of town.”

The mother came back, and the officer started to question her. The officer noted, “We’re going to discuss it all. Your daughter is obviously holding your little one. Suppose you want to have her come upstairs and talk to you there. But yeah, she’s right down in her closet.”

She responded, “She’s in freakout mode, which I understand cuz this is scary for her. This is traumatizing for her.” The officer also asked her about the 6-year-old kid who was not at home. She told them that she left her daughter with a friend.

Meanwhile, she also explained that she went to the gas station and then came back. She pointed out, “About an hour. I don’t feel like it’s been a tremendous amount of time. Also, I am going through a domestic dispute with this weird a– man named Atlin.”

She explained her ex gave her an eviction notice as she was living in his house, and she knew he had called the police on her. Her ex called the police to get back at her, so she would get a child endangerment charge. He also left a pellet gun in her home, which turned out to be another way he put her in trouble. As a convicted felon, she was not supposed to have that at home.

She had been with the man for four months, and their relationship turned sour. She had planned to leave the home without even him asking. Later, she also showed bruises on her arm as a result of the domestic dispute. The officer gave her a notice to appear in court. He read to her, “You are hereby notified and directed to appear in courtroom one of the Mon County courthouse on April 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. to answer for endangering the life of a child. On the other hand, her ex was arrested for domestic battery.

The bodycam video has over 55K views on YouTube. While the mother did not get arrested, many viewers slammed her. One wrote, “She posted she was going to be in St. Louis, so he called it in. I think they both thought she was fine leaving them if she was close by, which St. Louis isn’t!”

One viewer defended her, “But she could have posted that and paid for a babysitter; he wouldn’t have known! She could have posted that just to get him confused about her location. She is wrong for leaving kids alone, but she’s not all wrong.” Another viewer commented, “It’s not even her house; she’s talking about nobody who can come in there. Girl, you’re not even supposed to be in there.”

“No, what’s weird is that you go out to party while your kids are home alone,” one more pointed out. Many called her out for putting her kids in danger by leaving them alone and also moving into a man’s house whom she hadn’t known for a long time. One more asked, “So they’re arresting him for something she claims happened a couple of days before? Is that even legal?”
