Chris Jericho Comments On WWE Fans Booing Roman Reigns: ‘It’s The Cool Thing To Do’

Roman Reigns hasn’t had the easiest time getting the WWE fans to accept him as the company’s next top guy. Every fan that chooses to boo Reigns probably has what they believe to be a good reason to do so, but according to Chris Jericho, fans are choosing to boo Reigns because it’s the “cool thing to do.”
During an interview on the Live Audio Wrestling Podcast , Jericho compared Roman Reigns to WWE’s most polarizing figure, John Cena, who also had, and still has a tough time getting the entire WWE audience to get behind him. But now that Cena’s taken more of a part-time role in the company, WWE has to replace him with someone, and Vince McMahon’s golden child is Roman Reigns.
You can check out Jericho’s comment about fans who boo Reigns below.
“Listen, the guy is an amazing performer, he’s a great worker, I would work with him every night of the year if I could. But still people boo him because it’s almost like the John Cena thing where that’s the cool thing to do. I think if you actually [asked] ‘why don’t you like Roman Reigns?’ people wouldn’t even be able give you an answer. It’s just the cool thing to do is boo him.”

The WWE fans’ disdain for Roman Reigns began at the 2015 Royal Rumble, where he was completely booed out of the building. Even an endorsement from WWE legend and longtime fan favorite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson couldn’t make the fans accept Reigns as the new top star on that night.
Since the debacle that was the 2015 Royal Rumble, WWE has tried everything they could think of to get him cheered. Some nights they’re successful, but on most nights, they aren’t.
Rumor has it that WWE’s latest attempt at getting Reigns cheered will be to reunite The Shield at Survivor Series. But, the problem with that rumor is one of the three members of the ex-faction — Dean Ambrose — is on the SmackDown roster, while the other two — Seth Rollins and, of course, Roman Reigns — are on Raw. So, unless WWE is going to move Ambrose to Raw, the reunion won’t happen.
The one thing they haven’t done with Reigns is the thing that everyone thinks they should do, which is turn him heel. Ever since it became apparent that WWE fans weren’t going to accept Reigns as the company’s new conquering hero, ex-WWE stars such as Steve Austin and Rikishi have said that the company needs to turn him heel. But, Vince McMahon has been stubborn about it, and he’s clearly determined to get Reigns over by doing it his way.

Even though Reigns has been moved out of the WWE Universal Championship picture, it’s only a temporary thing, as he’s booked to challenge for the title at next month’s Roadblock show. Will he win the title there? Probably not. But, he probably won’t lose clean, so that means that he’ll likely be in the title picture leading up to, and all the way through, WrestleMania 33.
Reigns will probably get a poor reaction from the crowd at this Sunday’s Survivor Series show because it’s taking place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which is known to be a “heel friendly” crowd. So, they’ll probably cheer both Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, while they boo Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
It’ll be interesting to see what WWE does with Roman Reigns if the fans don’t accept him as the new top guy by WrestleMania 33. Will they turn him heel? They probably should if the fans reject his push for the third year in a row.
