The Oakland Raiders have reportedly acquired retired quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals in one of the biggest trade deadline deals in recent history.
According to Fox Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer, the Raiders have agreed to exchange possibly two first-round picks – one in the 2012 draft and a conditional future selection – for the disgruntled Palmer, who hasn’t taken a single snap for the Bengals this season.
The deal comes following the Raiders 24 – 17 win on Sunday over the Browns in which current QB Jason Campbell fractured his collarbone, leaving the squad in desperate need for another slinger to step in and run the show.
While everyone agrees the trade is great for Cincinnati, who could potentially wind up with two first round picks depending on how Palmer plays, there are doubts that the 31-year-old former Heisman has enough juice left in the tank to helm the silver and black crew.
In addition to the concerns as to whether or not Palmer is even in “playing shape,” Zach Kruse at BR reminds us that Carson essentially quit on the Bengals and its fan base for no other reason than disliking the team he played for — not exactly the kind of player you want to mortgage the future of your franchise on.
