Times are tough for everyone and that includes the Royal British Family who will see less cash in their pocketbooks in the near future. According to the Telegraph the queen will be taking less cash soon in order to increase transparency in the government and get the most “value for the money.

While the idea behind the cut makes sense, some supporters of the crown say it will lessen the dignity of the monarchy .

The cuts are part of the Sovereign Grant Bill which will require the Royal Family to receive audits like every other branch of the government. The Queen will not receive 15% of the profits from public property owned by the state. That number means the queen will receive approximately $56 million per year by 2015, a 9% decrease in finances.

According to one Conservative MP:

“When we say we want ‘a good value monarchy’, it makes Her Majesty sound like she’s something to be bought off the shop shelf at Tesco.”

While another MP went in the other direction, stating:

“That’s what we’re about, we’re about accountability,” while adding “And I think they’ve got absolutely nothing to fear.”
