Officials say that five people, including three adults and two children, were killed on Monday evening when a small plane headed from Georgia to Waco, Texas, crashed near its destination.
The Department of Public Safety said the crash happened Monday night just before 10pm (CST) in a farming and ranching community in Brazos County.
The identities of the victims, who authorities confirmed all shared the same last name, were not released.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the aircraft’s pilot radioed a tower in Fort Worth after experiencing choppy conditions and was advised by tower personnel to go in one direction to avoid the bad weather.
The AJC reports the pilot instead flew the plane in the opposite direction.
The Federal Aviation Administration was expected later Tuesday to begin its investigation on the cause of the crash.
