Police officers in the city of Darwin, Australia got a huge surprise when they responded to a domestic disturbance at the Humpty Doo Tavern and Hotel, and were mistaken for strippers by women attending a bachelorette party.
Police responded to a disturbance call at the Tavern, and also checked out the Hotel afterwards, just to make sure everything was fine there, reports Yahoo News. Upon arriving at the Hotel, however, they were accosted by women attending a hen party (or bachelorette party to those in the U.S.), who were under the assumption that the naughty entertainment had arrived.
ABC News reports that Northern Watch Commander Louis Jorgenson stated the police received a very warm welcome from the women. She explained:
“The girls were in fine form…they were most excited about the police presence. There were various shouts about how the strippers had arrived.”
Jorgenson added that:
“They nearly had their shirts torn off, but they managed to escape with their dignity intact.”
Proving how fantastic police officers in Australia can be, Yahoo News reports that the officers laughed the incident off, and even posed for a few pictures with the women, including bride-to-be Wendy Haddon.
ABC news notes that Haddon believed the officers’ arrival to be the highlight of the party, saying:
“Well, we thought they were going to be the strippers, actually. But, no, they weren’t. Bugger. We sort of had a few photos taken … had a bit of a play on the car. And, yes, they went along with it very well.”
Haddon went on to say that, “Yep, I think it is going to be very hard to top that, even for the wedding.” Well, good news for Haddon and her fellow bachelorette party attendees, the police officers do not intend on pressing charges against the rowdy women.
