A babysitter is accused of kidnapping two Black sisters in Atlanta. According to records, this wasn’t her first time. The woman was reportedly out on bond after being accused of kidnapping another baby.
Atlanta police arrested Lakesha Brown, 42, on August 17 inside a trailer at the Gateway South Apartment on Sylvan Road. Authorities released bodycam footage that showed officers using bolt cutters to breach a trailer at the apartment.
According to warrants, the trailer had no air conditioning amid ~97-degree heat and was described by officers as “unclean and unsuitable” for habitation. Brown was found hiding under a blanket with Zola Cooper, four, and her eleven-month-old sister, Norah.
In the bodycam footage, an officer can be seen yelling as the toddler cries, “Lakesha! Put your f***ing hands up. Do not move or I will shoot you.” Another officer grabs the baby and tells other officers, “I got the baby.”
As officers ask Brown to get up so they can handcuff her, she responds, “I’m trying to get up; my legs are stuck.”
Brown was arrested and is currently held in the Fulton County Jail without bond. She faces kidnapping and cruelty to child charges. Both girls were determined to be in good health after the rescue.

According to arrest warrants, Brown allegedly posed as a babysitter in a Facebook group named “pregnancy mom group” to befriend the Cooper sisters’ mother, Elica Redding, about a year ago.
Brown offered to help Redding during her pregnancy and built trust over time before offering to babysit the girls. Redding left the children with Brown on Saturday evening, August 15, believing “she was leaving her children in the care that she could trust,” according to Lt. Christapher Butler.
The woman told Redding she was taking the girls to Walmart on Sunday but failed to return them at their grandmother’s house later that day. This prompted an Amber Alert early Monday morning, according to Atlanta Black Star.
During the investigation, deputies learned Brown had a history of newborn abduction. On August 25, 2021, Jefferson County officers responded to a Fairfield, Alabama, report about the abduction of a four-day-old Kamarion Deshawn Taylor.
Brown, who was described as a family friend, was at the home when the mother rested. When the mother awoke, Brown and the baby were both gone.
Family members allegedly found social media posts by Brown that showed a baby resembling Kamarion, along with previous posts claiming she had recently given birth to twin boys.
After receiving a tip, police found the newborn at a home in Lipscomb. Brown was charged with first-degree kidnapping, and her bond was set at $100,000. She pleaded not guilty to the charge and was set to stand trial in May this year, but prosecutors said she never showed up.
Brown reportedly had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court in the case. After her recent arrest, the Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff DA’s Office has filed a motion to revoke her bond and issued a no-bond writ order.
