While some parents do not know how to cope with their children’s use of social media like Facebook and Twitter, author ReShonda Tate-Billingsley knew just how to deal with her daughter. Her teenage daughter had recently posted pictures of herself with alcohol, regardless of her age. Her mother, who saw the pictures came up with the perfect punishment.

As first reported by BuzzFeed , Billingley devised a punishment to let her daughter know that irresponsible social media behavior would not be tolerated. She had her daughter pose for a picture holding a sign that her mother also made her publish to Facebook.

The sign said,

“Since I want to post photos of me holding liquor I am obviously not ready for social media and will be taking a hiatus until I learn what I should + should not post. BYE-BYE.”

Billingsley isn’t the only parent who recently has come up with some interesting ways of dealing with children’s irresponsible social networking.

The Huffington Post is reporting that Denise Abbott, a mother from Ohio, used the same method to punish her 13-year-old daughter Ava after she found her posting “disrespectful things” on Facebook.

Abbott made her daughter post,

“I do not know how to keep my [mouth shut]. I am no longer allowed on Facebook or my phone. Please ask why,” the text on the 13-year-old girl’s Facebook photo read.

Both Billingsley and Abbot defended their method of parenting and the consequences for their children. They explained to various news outlets that the times are changing and so are the methods parent’s must adopt .
