A concerned citizen called the police after spotting a seven-year-old child walking alone. He walked 8 miles from his home, trying to get to school after missing his bus. The police officer talked to the child, who was afraid of his mom and said he’d get in trouble if she found out.
His mom made him set the alarm for the next day to go to school on his own; that’s why he got late. She didn’t give me breakfast or dinner last night to punish him. Moreover, she forced him to stay in the room all night.
The child tried to explain why he was punished, but could not remember the exact reason. However, it involved his little brother and him. The police officer went to the kids’ home and saw two other kids sleeping unattended.
They searched the house for their mother and found her sleeping in another room. After some questioning, the mother was not surprised at all. She told them, “He’s scared of me. Okay. I mean, he can be scared of me all he wants. He needs to be scared of me. I’m his parent. That’s his, that’s my job.”
The officer asked for her ID, but she told them it was with her husband. Identified as Amber Nicole Thompson, she had excuses for treating her son badly. She explained her son left her two-year-old on the trampoline by the pool. That’s why she punished him. Furthermore, she said the boy lied to her and was mean.
The officer interrupted her, “But with you being an adult, you can’t expect a seven-year-old to give his full attention to a 2-year-old kid.” He also slammed her for starving her kid and yelling at him.
The mother was arrested and charged with second-degree domestic battery of a child under 12, a class C felony, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, a class D felony. She was held on a bond of $50,000.
Meanwhile, the State Department of Human Services also found bruises on the face, arms, and buttocks of their three-year-old son. The mom said it was her husband who spanked the kids for lying.
The bodycam video had over 4.5 million views on YouTube. The viewers were heartbroken after listening to the child’s story and slammed the mother. One viewer commented, “She is NOT a mom. She gave birth to a child and doesn’t want to take care of him. She is not a mom to anyone.”
The second one posted, “No dinner, no breakfast? Trying to get to school hungry so he doesn’t get in more trouble. My heart hurts for this little guy.” Another one commented, “He’s more afraid of his mother finding out he missed the bus than walking 7 miles alone. THAT SAYS SOMETHING. Those poor kids.”
Several people agreed his speech wasn’t developed as a 7-year-old, one pointed out, “It’s really sad how undeveloped he is for a 7-year-old too. He speaks like a 4-year-old. 100% on his mother, those first few years are so imperative in cognitive and behavioral learning.”
