Andrew Luck Becomes No. 1 Draft Pick, Robert Griffin III Follows Right Behind

In what can only be described as the most predictable story of 2012 Standford quarterback Andrew Luck was announced as the NFL’s No. 1 draft pick on Thursday night, a decision the Indianapolis Colts confirmed on Wednesday night.

Luck will enter the NFL as the heir apparent to Peyton Manning with a four-year contract worth a respectable $22 million.

$22 million is a pretty standard NFL contract that doesn’t appear to be increasing year-over-year for new NFL No. 1 picks, a sign that teams are simply not willing to invest huge contracts into unproven professional talents. Still earning $22 million as a kid just out of college isn’t all that bad.

Following directly behind Andrew Luck is Washington Redskins pick Robert Griffin III who left Baylor this year after winning the Heisman Trophy in a breakout year that secured him the No. 2 spot.

Behind Griffin III was Alabama running back Trent Richardson who went to the Cleveland Browns follwed by USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil who will spend his rookie year with the Minnesota Vikings.

Rounding out the 2012 NFL draft top 5 is Jsutin Blackmon, the Oklahoma State wide receiver is heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Colts in the meantime are hoping Andrew Luck can make the rest of their offense better as Manning managed to accomplish, without a star quarterback last season the Indianapolis roster managed to finish in last place in the NFL, capturing only two wins all season. Luck however is known for reading defenses and generally making the players around him appear better than they actually are.
