Amani Toomer Predicts Tebow Will Eventually Replace Sanchez

Amani Toomer remembers when Eli Manning w2as the talk of New York, but not in a good way. He was referred to as the dud Manning and there were those who thought that he wouldn’t last more than three or four years. Then Eli put on his first Super Bowl ring and his first MVP and the rest is history.

While Toomer was always a huge fan of Manning. But Toomer clearly is not a fan of Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez , their current starter. While the coaches currently are completely behind Sanchez it should more than worry him that whenever anyone calls him a starter or talk about his support from the team they have to write the word “current” in front of it.

Toomer was speaking to SN Giants correspondent Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, when he declared Sanchez “isn’t a great quarterback” and doesn’t see him lasting the 2012 season as the Jets starter.

Although it may seem like he was dissing Sanchez it seemed more like he was endorsing Tebow.

While everyone is focused on Tebow v Sanchez remember that in the big Apple he is also fighting Sanchez v Manning.

During Manning’s first three years (2004-06) with the Giants, when Toomer was one of his top receivers, the Giants made the playoffs twice before emerging as Super Bowl champions after Manning’s fourth season. Although the Jets missed the playoffs in Sanchez’s just-completed third season, they advanced to the AFC championship game in each of his first two years.

There are a lot of similarities too. Manning was always criticized as having a lack of leadership skills and too many turnovers. He also had Kurt Warner waiting in the wings to take over if necessary.

No one ever said that playing in New York was easy, but with Tebow’s addition and Manning just winning his second Super Bowl Ring the pressure is clearly mounting.

Unless the Jets get to the Superbowl this year or have a break out season, Sanchez better get used to hearing the fans chant “Tebow Tebow”
