9/11 Golf Sale? Tumbledown Trails Celebrates September 11th With Discount Tee Times
What better way to celebrate one of our nation’s darkest moments than with a round of golf? Tumbledown Trails Golf Course was planning on holding a discount day on the 12th anniversary of September 11, but the Wisconsin golf course is now having second thoughts.
Tumbledown Trails’ Facebook page has been flooded with comments about the 9-11 promo, and most of them aren’t about golf.
One user writes: “9/11 is a painful, frightening memory for those of us who were living and growing up in the Northeast… For those who were there and who lost parents, relatives and friends, it is a nightmare they must face at this time every year for the rest of their lives. To exploit these horrors for profit is sickening.”
The Wisconsin golf course said that it was surprised by the backlash, and it is now debating whether or not it should cancel the event.
Tumbledown Trails Golf Course writes on its Facebook page: “Please stay tuned to see if we will be open on Weds 9/11. We are now worried about what people will do/say to our staff & do not want anything to happen or get out of control. Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused anyone.”
Club owner and general manager Marc Watts said that the golf course has been running the promotion since 2010. The 9-11 golf sale has been warmly welcomed in past years, according to Watts, but the hype around this year’s event is a little different.
Watts said: “We’re a little hurt by the fact that people are putting such a negative context on this. I thought people would appreciate it.”
The Tumbledown Trails Golf Course was planning to offer “9 holes with cart for only $9.11 per person or 18 holes with cart for only $19.11!” The golf course said that it will honor tee times that had already been booked but said that it wasn’t planning on taking additional reservations.
The golf course writes on Facebook: “We do sincerely apologize for offending anyone & hope that you do accept our sincere apology.”
