Kerry Washington Not Dishing Details On Her Secret Wedding

Kerry Washington isn’t going to be sharing details from her surprise summer wedding anytime soon.

The 36-year-old actress married football star Nnamdi Ashmugha this summer, but said she’s not going to join other Hollywood stars who sell their stories and farm out wedding photos to celebrity magazines.

“I’m walking around in the world with my ring. And when people say congratulations, I say thank you. But I’m going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold,” Kerry Washington said on her surprise wedding.

Washington appeared on the October issue of Glamour, telling how her tendency to open up about her personal life came back to bite her in the past.

“I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life. I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine [InStyle Weddings, during her 2005 engagement to actor David Moscow],” she shared. “But I couldn’t just turn around and say, ‘I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.’ So I just thought, ‘OK, no more.’ ”

Kerry Washington seems to have the hang of the off-the-radar approach now. When she and Ashmugha got married in June, even Washington’s co-stars had no idea the wedding was coming.

“I did know she was dating,” said actor Dan Bucatinsky, who stars alongside Washington in Scandal. “I didn’t know that they were going to get married, but all of us sort of hoped. We wish her the best always. She did it in the perfect way.”

While Kerry Washington may not be giving out intimate details of her private life, she isn’t hurting for exposure. Aside from her cover on Glamour, Washington was also featured on Flare magazine and just made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week.

“The red carpet is good marketing,” Washington said. “When you work so hard, you should stand behind the project in a way that magnetizes people. So I, like a good, only-child student, studied fashion and decided I was going to play that game, and fell in love with it, and with the artists and designers.”

Kerry Washington also has a hit show on her hands. The much-awaited Season 3 of Scandal will premiere October 4 on ABC.
