Olivia Nuzzi Called A ‘Slutbag’ By Weiner Spokeswoman
Olivia Nuzzi reveals that she was called a “slutbag,” and other vulgar names, by Anthony Weiner’s spokeswoman Barbara Morgan. Nuzzi previously worked as an intern for Weiner’s mayoral campaign.
In a recent article, Nuzzi detailed what it was like to be an intern for the campaign. She says that she joined the campaign to further her political network.
As reported by Business Insider, numerous interns expressed that they joined the campaign simply to network with Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin. As Abedin has a close connection with Hillary Clinton, the interns hoped to secure a spot in Clinton’s potential 2016 campaign.
Nuzzi explains that Abedin was rarely present in the campaign office. In her Daily News article, Nuzzi also complained that Weiner often referred to all of his female interns as “Monica,” regardless of their actual name.
Olivia Nuzzi left the campaign after one month, alluding to the fact that her networking prospects with Abedin were grim.
The article was far from the revealing tell-all that was promised. However, it apparently angered Weiner spokeswoman Barbara Morgan. As Weiner’s communications director, Morgan spoke with Talking Points about Nuzzi’s article:
“I’m dealing with like stupid f**king interns who make it on to the cover of the Daily News… F**king slutbag. Nice f**king glamour shot on the cover… Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again.”
Morgan pointed out that Nuzzi lacked motivation and often failed to show up for work. She states that when Nuzzi did work, she “wasn’t any good.” Morgan suspects that Nuzzi applied for the position simply because she “wanted to be seen.”
Barbara Morgan later released a statement about her biting criticism against Olivia. She points out that her words were said in anger. She states that she was wrong and is sorry. Morgan explains that she thought the conversation was off record.
Olivia Nuzzi may have been seeking attention by joining Weiner’s campaign. However, her article eventually brought her more attention than the four weeks she spent working in Anthony Weiner’s office.
