Piermont Boat Crash: Second Body Found, Best Man Believed Recovered

Friday night’s tragic boat crash in Piermont, NY resulted in the deaths of two and the subsequent arrest of the boat’s driver, and police confirm a second body has been recovered.

Following the Friday night boat accident in Piermont, two people on the boat remained missing into Saturday.

Bride to be Lindsay Stewart, 30, and the man set to be the best man in her wedding, Mark Lennon, 30, were not among crash survivors found after the Friday night collision with a barge.

Conditions in the waters near the Tappan Zee bridge on the Hudson were rough on Friday night, necessitating the search and rescue mission be suspended until 9 AM Saturday.

But as it started again Saturday morning, Stewart’s mother and stepfather held out hope that the woman would be recovered alive after the tragic accident.

Sadly, Stewart did not survive the barge crash, and her body was recovered early Saturday afternoon. Before the crash, her mother Carol said:

“She’s supposed to be married two weeks from today… It just can’t end like this.”

Stepdad Walter Kosik had said of his missing stepdaughter:

“There’s a miracle every day. We’re believing she’s somewhere and she’s alive… But the water temperature, there’s hypothermia, it’s scary. I’m just hoping she’s clinging onto the bridge somewhere. You can only pray.”

USA Today reports that a jetskiier not affiliated with the search for the body of Lennon, 30, found the missing man near Piermont Pier:

“Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco said the jet-skiier, a civilian not involved in the search, spotted the body a mile south of the Piermont Pier at 11:12 a.m.”

After what one veteran investigator said was “the worst boating accident he had ever seen,” boat operator Jojo K. John, 35, of Nyack was charged one felony count of vehicular manslaughter and three felony counts of second-degree vehicular assault while still in the hospital.
