New Guitar Hero guitars rock my socks

If you’re one of the crowd who feel Guitar Hero has become too samey, publisher Activision may be hoping these dramatically redesigned guitar controllers drag you back. Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock will ship on September 20 with these admittedly awesome new axes in tow.

Yet there’s brains as well as beauty behind this overhaul. These new guitars are the first to pack all of the electronics into the neck and fretboard, meaning the body of the controller can be customised and swapped about at will. These clip-on bodies come in the form of two ‘wings’ – it’s even possible to play with no body at all.

Obviously, this presents all sorts of merchandising opportunities for ol’ moneybags Activision, but I must confess it’s an appealing prospect.

The guitar you see above will be the one that ships with the game. Here’s a design exclusive to GameStop, which you can obtain by preordering Warriors of Rock:
