Pregnant Runaway Bride Refuses To Return Gifts And Jewelry From Wedding

Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn resident, Kevin Li of Bay Ridge, is suing his ex-fiancee for damages over thousands of dollars in jewelry and gifts taken after his bride-to-be cut-and-ran two days after the couple’s elaborate union.

Li claims his pregnant with twin boys bride, 33-year-old Amy Chan, allegedly cut off all commutation shortly after the nuptials were taken, ditching him and disappearing with $72,000 worth of expensive baubles, other gifts, cash and checks, and jewelry generously bestowed to the couple from loved ones, entrusted to Chan’s mother for safekeeping.

The suit states Chan refuses to return any of the loot, including her two-carat diamond engagement ring worth nearly $24,000, and the $36,500 “betrothal fee” paid to the woman’s family.

Chan is also accused of being audacious enough to return to the couple’s Brooklyn home just before dumping Li and greedily collecting additional presents not left with the woman’s mother in Manhattan.

The jilted groom wants it all back. Court documents indicate Li wants to return the gifts to his generous relatives.

Chan has since countered, stating her ex is lying, that Li was the one who terminated communication – dodging phone calls and texts.

The couple, who aren’t legally married according to Li, held a lavish commitment ceremony at a dim sum restaurant in Chinatown, surrounded by nearly 100 family and friends, reports the New York Post.

The two were not legally joined because Chan thought the combined income would hinder her chances at attaining her dream apartment, possibly making her ineligible for the Financial District studio. But the two planned to wed after Chan discovered she was expecting. The couple had been dating a year before Chan became pregnant with twins.

Do you blame Li for suing his ex-fiancee or do you think Chan should be allowed to keep the spoils? At the very least should Chan be required to return the ring and “betrothal fee” considering they were never legally wed?
