Andy Samberg Engaged: Comedian And Singer Joanna Newsom To Wed

Andy Samberg is engaged to longtime girlfriend and singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom, and the Saturday Night Live alum has Justin Timberlake to thank.

Samberg is close friends with Timberlake, a frequent guest and performer on the show, and said it was Justin’s engagement and October wedding to Jessica Biel that inspired him to finally pop the question, People magazine noted.

The 31-year-old Newsom is a singer and also plays the harp, piano, and harpsichord. She and Samberg have been dating for five years.

Newsom and Samberg attended the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, which Samberg also hosted. The ceremony was noted for an awkward moment when Samberg took a shot at the show’s much larger and more well-known competitor, the Oscars.

“We have one thing to say to Hollywood: F*** you,” said Samberg in his opening monologue, which MSN noted fell flat with the audience. But Samberg continued on anyway.

“Oscars, f*** yourself,” he went on. “This is our Oscars, and even if we were invited, which I was not, we will not be going … Everybody say it with me: Hollywood, f*** you.”

Andy Samberg was one of the most involved cast members before leaving SNL prior to the 2012 season. On the show since 2005, Samberg was responsible for the popular SNL Digital Shorts, which included several featuring Timberlake.

After leaving the show, Samberg has turned his attention acting, appearing in Celeste and Jesse Forever and the Adam Sandler project That’s My Boy.

Since announcing their engagement, Andy Samberg and Joanna Newsom have not disclosed a date for their wedding.
