Osa Masina: USC Football Player Charged With Rape And Sodomy In Utah, Under Investigation In California

Osa Masina, a USC football player, has been charged with three felonies including one count of rape and two of forcible sodomy after a woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by him in Utah. Masina is also under investigation in California for allegedly sexually assaulting the same woman there two weeks before the Utah assault.

The 19-year-old woman, who is only identified as “K,” stated in the probable cause affidavit that she had consumed marijuana and alcohol at a party in Cottonwood Heights on July 25 and 26. “K” then reports that she left the party with Masina, who she has known for years, and two of his friends. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the group returned to the home that they had been at and “K” went to sleep.

The next thing the young woman remembered was waking up to Masina on top of her, having very painful anal sex with her. She was so intoxicated she was unable to fend him off, and she reported that the only thing she could do was to move her legs to lessen the pain, according to the charges. Masina allegedly laughed and then continued the assault.

The charging documents go on to say that “K” passed out again but woke to Masina “engaging in forcible oral sex with her.” She was unable to breathe or talk and passed out again. “K” woke up later and tried to reach a friend by phone but there was no answer.

It appears she passed out again because she woke up in the yard of a neighboring home wearing only her bra and having a blanket draped over her. She had damage to her teeth and was bleeding, and that day she underwent a rape examination.

The California assault is alleged to have occurred July 14 and involves both Osa Masina and his teammate Don Hill. The men allegedly gave “K” marijuana, Xanax, and alcohol at a frat party, and then took her back to the off-campus apartment belonging to Hill. TMZ reports that Masina held her head and put his penis in her mouth while Hill had vaginal sex with her.

A search warrant was executed against Osa Masina last month in Los Angeles in connection with both the Utah and California cases. The warrant was to search Masina’s phone and to obtain a DNA sample from him. Masina is reported to have videotaped the assault and taken pictures without the knowledge or consent of the victim and then sent the video to the victim’s ex-boyfriend by Snapchat. Masina has admitted to having sex with “K” but contends that the sex was consensual.

Unlike many colleges that have been skewered for not acting against football players or athletes in general, USC has apparently learned from the mistakes of other schools. When the allegations came to light, the school announced that neither Osa Masina and Don Hill would be playing in their team’s first two games of the season.

As the Inquisitr has reported, schools such as Baylor University have come under fire for their treatment of sexual assault victims, particularly when star athletes are involved. The documentary The Hunting Ground highlighted the rampant problem of the way schools are dealing with sexual assaults, and the outrage and attention the issue has received prompted Vice President Joe Biden to make a powerful speech at the Academy Awards. Earlier this year the Inquisitr announced the creation of the “It’s On Us” movement to end sexual assault on college campuses and that the vice president was teaming up with musician Lady Gaga to spread awareness of this vitally important issue.

After the charges were announced today, ESPN reports that USC has gone even further. They announced that Masina was not only kicked off the football team, but he was kicked out of the school altogether and has been banned from returning to campus. He has been given until 6 p.m. Monday to have his belongings removed from the residence.

Osa Masina surrendered to the police and bail was set at $250,000. He has reportedly already posted bail and has been released from custody.
