A Girl Dies After Horse Throws Her Off At Lancaster Fair In New Hampshire

A girl was thrown from her horse while competing in the White Mountains Riding Club Horse Show at the Lancaster Fair in New Hampshire. The horse fell over on top of the girl and she was transported to a hospital, but later died from her injuries, WCVB reports.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. It was revealed by several witnesses that the horse fell on top of the girl after she was thrown off. She was immediately transferred to Weeks Medical Center, but she was unable to recover from her injuries.

The identity or age of the girl has not yet been released, but more information will be reported as it becomes available.

Unfortunately, incidents like this occur more often than many are aware of. A similar incident occurred on Wednesday in Saugerties, New York during an equestrian show. A 22-year-old Long Island woman, Rebecca Weissbard, was thrown from her horse during an event. After she landed on the ground, the horse then fell on her at Horse Shows in The Sun, reveals PIX 11.

Police report that the woman was completing her second 10-hurdle run. When she was cleared the first hurdle, the horse collided with a pole, causing the woman to be thrown off the horse. The horse then fell and landed on the woman. Weissbard, who was an international equestrian champion, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In May, a 12-year-old girl died after her horse collapsed on her during a rodeo in Missouri. Kalee Chandler was riding in the rodeo when her horse collapsed and fell right on her, Fox 8 reports.

Chandler was running the barrels when the accident occurred. A family member told the reporter that Kalee was a very experienced rider and loved competing in rodeos. A family friend, Toni Samples, explained how the accident occurred.

“She was running on the way home from the third barrel, and he kind of sped up, which is kind of unusual at the finish line, and she was trying to pull him up.”

The horse ran into the gates and as the horse fell, it pinned Kalee to the ground. Samples said that Kalee was underneath the horse for quite some time before they could get her unpinned.

“We tried to get her out from underneath the horse. Then they finally got her out from underneath him, the saddle off, and they pulled her out and she was pretty lifeless.”

A little over a month ago, a 12-year-old girl died after a horse fell on top of her right before a parade in Shelburne, Ontario, Global News reports. While she was getting ready to walk through the parade, the horse reared up and fell to the ground, landing on the girl.

The girl was taken by airlift to the Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, but she later died from her injuries. The parade was immediately cancelled after the tragic event.

According to WCVB, this makes the second tragedy at the Lancaster Fairgrounds in New Hampshire. Just last year, a father and daughter were attending a circus at the fairgrounds when the circus tent suddenly collapsed due to a storm. Robert Young, 41, and Annabelle Young, 8, were both killed. Approximately 32 additional people were injured, some serious.

Boston revealed that the circus company held several charges against them for failing to obtain a permit prior to setting up the tent.

Condolences go out to the family and friends of the girl who lost her life due to this tragic event. This is certainly sad and alarming. More information will be provided once it becomes available.
