‘A Father’s Secret’: Lifetime Movie Seems Loosely Inspired By BP Oil Spill True Story, Starring Willa Ford On LMN

A Father’s Secret is a fresh new movie that you won’t want to miss this weekend on the Lifetime Movie Network. Formerly titled, Hunt For Truth, the 2016 movie tells the story of a prominent attorney who takes on a billion-dollar wrongful death lawsuit due to an ocean oil spill and learns that her boss, who turns out to be her real father, is under investigation. LMN’s A Father’s Secret is directed by R.D. Braunstein and written by Evan Jacobs. Though not billed as a true-story movie, it seems to have taken some inspiration from the BP Oil Spill case.

A Father’s Secret stars Aidan Bristow as Scott Giorna, Mark Allyn as Mayor, Ruby Elise as Jennifer Banks, Jeff Faehnle as Isaac Richmond, Willa Ford as Carrie Evans, Malynda Hale as Detective, Tilky Jones as Steven Riggs, Daniel Hugh Kelly as Caswell Foxx, Joseph Nasser as Greg Giorna, Dave Parke as Fred, Canyon Prince as Curtis Wheelwright, Richard Riehle as Ian Stone, Arthur Roberts as Damon Evans, Pamela Roylance as Jacqueline, and David Violi as Victor.

A Father’s Secret Lifetime Movie Network Synopsis

Kerry Evans (Carrie Evans) is a beautiful and efficient attorney who has a lot on her plate when she is asked to take on another case. But this is no ordinary case. It’s a billion-dollar wrongful death suit that has to do with the Chesterfield oil rig ocean explosion. Appearing at first to be an open and shut case of negligence, Kerry realizes that this is not at all as it appears after reading the original field expert’s report.

To add to the stress, the families of the six victims that were found want answers about what really happened out in the ocean, and Kerry (Carrie) learns that her boss, powerful attorney Caswell Foxx, is being secretly investigated in connection with it all.

Intrigued, Kerry starts looking into Caswell Foxx’s background and learns that the U.S. Senate hopeful is not only her boss but her biological father. Even more disturbing, she learns that he is connected to the disappearance of a woman. Someone knows that Kerri is investigating the Chesterfield Oil Spill, and as she gets closer to the truth, she comes to the grim realization that she may end up jeopardizing her own life as she tries to clear her father’s name.

A Similar True Story

The movie is similar to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill of the Gulf of Mexico, which occurred in 2010 after an explosion. Some key points in that true story included the following:

  • The first reports that surfaced indicated that about 15 people were missing. That number was later reduced to 11 casualties.
  • Many people’s livelihoods were greatly affected.
  • Fisherman William Allen “Rookie” Kruse committed suicide after the explosion, which wiped out his entire business. His brother was very vocal about how the BP Oil spill ruined his brother’s life, according to CNN.
  • It was alleged that there was a massive cover-up to keep the public uninformed. There is even a report of a mysterious email alerting a reporter to the truth of what was going on.

BP settled the lawsuit against them, according to the New York Times

“BP agreed to pay $4.5 billion in fines and other penalties and to plead guilty to 14 criminal charges related to the rig explosion two years ago that killed 11 people and caused a giant oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The government charged the top BP officers aboard the drilling rig, Robert Kaluza and Donald Vidrine, with manslaughter in connection with each man who died, contending that the officials were negligent in supervising tests to seal the well.”

Also, take a look at the case of hotshot attorney Kamala Harris and the 2007 Cosco Busan oil spill.

Look out for DeepWater Horizon, a movie which is based on the BP Oil disaster. It’s due to premiere in September of 2016, starring Mark Wahlberg.

The Lifetime Movie Network’s movie A Father’s Secret was produced by Nasser Entertainment in association with Daro Film Distribution, with Jack Nasser as executive producer.
