Are Elton John’s Rants Against Madonna And Janet Jackson Misogynistic?

Elton John may be one of the most successful pop stars of all time and a great AIDS activist, but that shouldn’t excuse his ugly rants about female pop stars. Elton has notoriously feuded with Tina Turner, Lily Allen, Madonna, and now, Janet Jackson.

Madonna seems to be Elton John’s biggest target. It seems that every move she makes, he criticizes. Elton John famously accused Madonna of lip-syncing on her Reinvention Tour in 2004, even though it’s quite clear she didn’t. But it all came to a peak when, in 2012, Madonna’s current MDNA Tour was out-grossing anything Elton John had done in years. According to Rolling Stone, he eventually called Madonna the “C” word in an interview with an Australian journalist Mollie Meldrum.

“She’s such a nightmare. Her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger c**t.”

Elton’s statement was quite interesting, considering Madonna’s MDNA Tour was the No. 1 tour of 2012 according to Billboard. The tour wasn’t even finished when Billboard reported a total gross of $228 million. Elton John didn’t fare so well: He charted at No. 19 with a total gross of $33 million — a lot of money, but far below what Elton used to make with his shows.

Now, Elton John has another female singer in his cross hairs. Rolling Stone quotes Elton talking about Janet Jackson.

“You know, f*****g music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, ‘This is the greatest show – four and a half stars.’ It’s f****g lip-synced! Hello! That’s not a show! I’d rather go and see a drag queen. F**k off.”

However, not everybody agrees with Elton John and Christopher Rosa from VH1 is one of those people.

“Except it is a show, Sir John. The ‘Tiny Dancer’ icon has an untouchable style and leaves a pound of flesh on stage after every performance. However, Jackson does the same thing but in a different sense. We can’t confirm whether or not Jackson lip-syncs, but what she (allegedly) lacks in live vocals, she makes up for in punchy dancing and a mesmerizing stage presence 100 percent worth the $90 (or so) per ticket,” Rosa claims.

Janet Jackson fans immediately went after Elton on Twitter.

It’s important to note that even though Elton John hasn’t apologized to Janet yet, he has apologized to Madonna for his rants. According to the Daily Mail, Elton John saw Madonna eating at the same restaurant in Paris and sent a note over to her, asking if he could pay the bill. Madonna accepted and the both of them talked. Elton admitted that what he said about her should have never been said in public.

Last June, The Inquisitr reported that Elton John used the “C” word to describe an innocent steward who was working at one of his shows. Elton did feel bad; he invited the woman on stage and kissed her on the cheek. Elton John probably isn’t a bad person, but can’t control his temper. It’s unfortunate that female pop stars seem to be the biggest target of Elton John’s temper tantrums.
