As if the Subway chain of restaurants didn’t have enough drama coming their way already this year, now they have to worry about people trashing their locations. A naked woman in a Subway in Alaska was high on spice, and absolutely decimated the location by throwing chairs around and breaking anything in her path.
Thing is, she wasn’t naked when she entered the restaurant, but that was when things got really bad.
KTUU reports that employees say the woman entered the Subway on Tudor Road around 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening, and she was fully clothed. She went to the back of the store and into the restrooms, but she didn’t come out for a long time.
Two hours later, she emerged from the restroom and was no longer wearing any clothes at all. The naked woman proceeded to break furniture, throw food around the restaurant, and pull ceiling tiles down to the floor.
Subway employees say she even started throwing chairs and tables around the restaurant.
Police say they believed the woman was, indeed, on drugs at the time of the incident, and they have more specifically said they believe she was on the drug “spice.”
The situation was reported to police at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, and officers arrived to the Subway location in East Anchorage, Alaska, shortly after. Employees told police the female suspect began “acting odd.” Police Sgt. Shaun Henry said it got much worse.
“People described her as ‘a little crazy.’ She disrobed, went fully nude and kinda just went nuts. Started breaking furniture, destroyed the store, knocked over computers, ripped the ceiling down, sprayed a fire extinguisher all over, locked herself in the bathroom for awhile, broke just about everything you could find.”
KTVA reports that a Subway employee began cleaning up, and said he found human waste on the floor in the bathroom.
Police on the scene subdued the female and ended up taking her into custody. Medics arrived on the scene at Subway and confirmed it was a spice-related issue after they examined her, so she was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The suspect, whose name was not released, will most likely face felony charges due to the “significant amount of damage” done.
Luckily, no one was injured during the incident, and no customers were in Subway at the time. A number of employees were present, though, and witnessed the entire event.
Sgt. Henry said this kind of reaction to spice is not unusual.
“You see all kinds of behavior. Some people just lay down and go to sleep. Other people become extremely hostile or violent. You never know what you’re going to get and that’s part of the danger with it is you don’t know what it’s going to do to the human body and you get sometimes these very extreme reactions.”
Earlier this year, former Subway spokesman and pitchman Jared Fogle pleaded guilty to child pornography charges and to crossing state lines to pay for sex with minors. In August, Fogle reached a plea deal that will have him serve no more than 12.5 years in prison and pay $1.4 million restitution to 14 victims.
His plea deal has come under much scrutiny from past felons, who have called it “ludicrous.” Subway has parted ways with Fogle and no longer wants anything to do with him after the charges and admission of guilt.
The naked woman high on spice and destroying a Subway restaurant in Alaska is just the latest problem in a tumultuous year for the company. They are hoping the worst was behind them, but then unexpected situation like this happened, and it’s simply a matter of dealing with it and moving on.
