‘Arrow’ Producer Wendy Mericle Details The Sara Lance/John Constantine Connection In Episode 5 ‘Haunted’

Constantine has been once again the talk of the town, and most recently Arrow’s Starling City, and details have started to emerge as to what John Constantine will be up to in Arrow season 4. The Inquisitr reported Saturday about the buzz surround Constantine’s return, and of course a glimpse into what he will be up to in his trip to Starling City.

Arrow producer Wendy Mericle provides more details surrounding Sara Lance and John Constantine, as IGN reported that the necessity for Constantine’s involvement was solely based on Sara Lance’s return to Legends of Tomorrow.

“It was born more out of the storyline for Sara Lance. We needed someone to come in and help bring her back. He felt like the most exciting possibility and we’re just thrilled to get him. He brings such a different element to the show.”

Many Constantine fans are likely asking themselves whether or not the character is being reinvented, as DC Comics has done more than once. According to Blastr, Mericle says that NBC’s Constantine and his background will be coming, in full, to Arrow season 4.

“Absolutely. He is coming in fully as who he was on the show. We’re getting wardrobe. We’re very excited to have him. He’s a tremendous actor. It’s so cool to have that cross-pollination. We are very lucky and DC was very generous letting us have him.”

Unfortunately for Constantine fans, especially his massive Twitter following, the one-shot episode chant has been permeating the discussion as to whether the CW will continue his character past Sara Lance’s resurrection and Arrow season 4. CW president Mark Pedowitz, who famously, verbally killed any chance of Constantine season 2 on the CW, was the first to say it is just a one-shot appearance.

Greg Berlanti told us to “never say never,” and Wendy Mericle seems to be sticking with the CW/Arrow official response at this time.

“Right now, it really was — it’s born out of necessity for this particular story. I think Mark was right, it is a one off and this is what we’re focusing on right now.”

So, once again Constantine fans, Hellblazer fans, #Save Constantine, and the entire legion of fans birthed from the NBC show, it is yet again time to play the waiting game. Unlike the cancelling of the back nine episodes on NBC, and the eventual complete demise, Constantine fans have less than a month before they will yet again get to see their favorite Demonologist again.
