Constantine: Matt Ryan And CW Handed Down The Verdict, So What Will John Be Doing In Starling City?

Constantine and Hellblazer fans did it. John Constantine was recently confirmed to appearing on an episode of Arrow in Season 4. Daniel Cerone, Matt Ryan, and the CW network confirmed this news, but at that time, little was expressed as to when fans of the defunct NBC Constantine would be seeing him pick up and dust off the old trench coat, or what the nature of his visit to Starling City would be. According to Comicbook, Constantine’s release from hell and a guest star in Starling City will be in Episode 5, an Arrow episode entitled “Haunted.” The description is as follows.

“John Constantine is a weather worn exorcist and expert on the supernatural and the occult. He is a detective, magician, and a hunter of demons, and will provide critical support to Oliver (Stephen Amell) when arrows aren’t enough.”

So, why will CW’s Arrow need the petty dabbler of the dark arts to guest star? Well, technically, Constantine and Arrow fans were already treated to the answer. Not too long ago, Marc Guggenheim hinted that John Constantine was an expert on the Lazarus Pit, and Sara Lance will be returning from the dead for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Only until now though, Guggenheim explain to TV Insider how this all factors in.

“Unlike Thea, who wasn’t fully dead, the consequences of using the pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties, and John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those.”

The Inquisitr had reported that the next season Arrow of was themed “Magic and Mysticism,” and suggested Constantine was coming.

Constantine actor Matt Ryan, after Daniel Cerone hinted about a “little” Constantine news, confirmed his move to the CW and Arrow in a special Twitter message and video. When Ryan said that Constantine’s “trench coat is being dusted,” he wasn’t kidding. “Dusted off,” indeed, as reports have indicated that Constantine’s trench coat, tie, pants, and even a non-apparel item — like one of his directors — are heading to CW’s Arrow.

Just in case you Constantine, Hellblazer and Arrow fans think you were excited to hear the news, you have now heard from the Arrow himself, Stephen Amell.

“I am super excited. I feel like those types of events, when you can execute them on television, are really cool. We are extremely excited for Matt, and I know that he will be a welcome addition.”

However, any true Constantine fan knows that Oliver and John do not exactly get along, so it will certainly be interesting to see how the occult detective and the Arrow get along on the CW.

So far, it has been indicated over and over that this is a one-shot tribute to John Constantine, but nothing more.

According to Zap2it, CW Arrow producer Greg Berlanti opened up to the possibility of more Constantine in saying he’s learned to “never say never.”

“I’ve learned to never say never because so much has happened that I didn’t think would happen with the characters and the shows and the universes that we’re all getting to build and play in.”

It would be appear that anything is possible. Never say never, and don’t count the John Constantine Hellblazer out. His fans now have reason to look forward to the future.
