Girl, 5, Saves Family: Lexi Shymanski Climbed 40-Foot Embankment For Help After Crash
A very brave 5-year-old girl, Lexi Shymanski, saved her family after a horrific car crash. The barefoot little girl crawled away from the wreckage and up a rugged and steep embankment to flag down someone to help rescue her loved ones.
Lexi Shymanski was able to free herself from her car seat, and then pull her tiny body out of the smashed up SUV. Angela Shymanski, the 5-year-old girl’s mother, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and careened down a 40-foot ridge.

“It’s crazy,” Angela Shymanski stated during an interview after the car crash in Jasper, Canada. “I only can remember one or two times where she got out of her five-point harness previously. She somehow got out, adrenaline or whatever, and barefoot hiked up the embankment. It’s amazing and we’re just so glad she did that. ”
Jasper is west of Alberta.

The girl, 5, was able to react quickly to the tragedy and her actions are being credited with saving the lives of her mother and her 10-week-old baby brother Peter. To escape from the SUV crash, Lexi Shymanski had to release her car seat harness, which has lodged against the back of the front seat, and then get the damaged door of the vehicle open.
The little girl flagged down a passing car after climbing up the embankment. The driver climbed down to the crash and was able to remove the baby from the vehicle. The motorist then reportedly climbed back up the hill to find someone to help her with the girl’s unconscious mother. Luckily for the family, the next driver to come past just happened to be a paramedic.
A GoFundMe page was created for the Shymanski family to help with expenses, and has raised more than $19,000 so far. Angela, who worked as a swim teacher, was confined to a wheelchair as a result of the accident. She reportedly broke her back in two places, had emergency surgery because of internal bleeding, and had “some organs” removed.

Baby Peter reportedly needed neurosurgery to reduce swelling in his brain. Lexi escaped serious physical injury and made it out of the crash with just some scratches. All three individuals were airlifted to an area hospital, where they remained for 19 days. The family is reportedly recovering well.
Lexi Shymanski was surprised to be called a hero. Her mother said that the little 5-year-old girl is just happy to be back home and is enjoying playing with her dog and her ducks.
