Cinco de Mayo is a celebration originating predominately in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla, which translates into The Day of the Battle of Peubla. The holiday is in honor of Mexican heritage as well as a celebration of the freedom and democracy achieved during the Civil War in the state of Peubla.

The Air Force jets will fly by after the parade has commenced and is underway. AMVETS Post 1957 members will be in head of the parade and a World War II veteran, Octavio Gonzalez Sr., will take the roll of parade grand marshal. Martinez was quoted having said:

“We’re asking all veterans to come out for the parade.”

A $200 first place prize will be awarded to the best float in the parade, a second place prize of $100 dollars will also be awarded. The judging of the floats will be voted on originality and for the best representation of the family and culture.

Once the parade has finished, the celebration will continue at the L.A. Cafe, located at 4460 W. Maumee, at 8:00 p.m. (PST). Activities will begin with a flag-raising ceremony.
