Television personality Montel Williams is also a veteran of the Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. So, of course, he felt strongly about Donald Trump’s recent comments about John McCain. For those who missed it, the U.S. Republican presidential candidate slammed McCain following his recent visit to Arizona.
Over the past couple days, Trump has had no reservations about voicing his disdain for the former presidential candidate. In fact, he even went a step further with a subliminal jab, mocking McCain and calling him a “dummy” for being held captive as a prisoner of war during Vietnam. Trump’s comments definitely didn’t sit well with Williams so he decided to voice his opinion. On Saturday, July 18, he took to Twitter with a rant in response to Trump’s comments, calling him a “carnival barker and a p**k,” reports Mediate.
Here are Williams’ tweets:
One doesn't have to agree with his politics. His service is due a special level of respect that is absolute. https://t.co/CLt5nXEKz1— Montel Williams (@Montel_Williams) July 18, 2015
It definitely didn’t take long for social media users to notice Williams’ outbursts and many have commended him for speaking out. However, his rant didn’t stop there. According to Biz Pac Review, he also took to Facebook with a brief statement about the ordeal and uploaded a 90-second video via YouTube to make sure his sentiments are known.
“Enough! Whether you like John McCain’s politics or not, for Donald Trump to mock him for getting captured and held POW (where he was brutally tortured) is INEXCUSABLE. John McCain earned the title of American hero. Doesn’t mean he’s always right on policy, but it means his service is owed a special level of respect PERIOD.
“John McCain is my naval academy brother. He was captured and tortured for having the courage to serve. I don’t always agree with him, BUT I WILL NEVER DISRESPECT HIS SERVICE EVER.”
It’s probably safe to say Williams has gotten his point across. Although he admitted he does not always agree with McCain’s political views, he would never disrespect someone who served in the armed forces to protect America.
