2010 NFL Draft in review: New Orleans Saints

I think a lot of people were surprised when the Saints passed on DT Brian Price with the last pick in the first round, and instead took CB Patrick Robinson, especially since they took a corner with their first pick in the 2009 draft. However I think we are seeing a change in how teams are constructed. In a passing league and the NFL is still that, corners become very important. The Saints now have a trio of skilled corners and we may see them run a myriad of exotic nickel and dime packages to get them all on the field.

In the second round the picked up OT Charles Brown with the 64th pick. He is a developmental project who will be groomed over the next two years or so. The biggest question on this team was the defensive front seven and the Saints did little to address that. They did land DT Al Woods in the fourth round , if he can show that he can step in and solidify the Saints run defense he is the most likely rookie to make the team.

The Saints also picked up a talented, but raw TE in Jimmy Graham, Center Matt Tennant, and a QB project in Sean Canfield. With all that being said here is a look at the initial grades of the 2010 Saints draft class:

• Round One – A, he is a top notch CB, and should find a spot in their rotation • Round Two – B-, The needed O line depth, but it was not a primary need •Talent- A, A great CB and highly touted OT is a pretty draft class all in itself •Need- B-, They wanted Woods and they got him in the 4th but it seems the D line and LB corps could have used some attention
