2010 New York Jets preview

It seems impossible to say that the success of the New York Jets depends on them getting Darrelle Revis back in to the fold. While I think it would be a lot easier with him, I don’t think that the ultimate success of this team will hang on Revis’ contract situation. They did draft Kyle Wilson and he could very well start in place of Revis opposite Antonio Cromartie. It would not be ideal, but it seems like it would be all right. This is a very good team poised for a long playoff run, and I don’t think anything or anyone can derail that.

Of course second year QB Mark Sanchez will have to at least play as well as he did in 2009, and probably a heck of a lot better. Damien Woody, Jerricho Cotchery, and Santonio Holmes will likely be is primary receivers. The RB position is something of a mystery, Shonn Green will likely be the work horse, with LaDainian Tomlinson and Joe McKnight being change of pace backs. The O line is solid, and the offense looks like it is ready to come out and dominate.

We have already talked about the two corner positions, and it looks like this team is set at safety as well. They will run a base 3-4 scheme, and it looks like all four LB spots are set except for OLB where Bryan Thomas and Jason Taylor will battle for the starting spot in training camp. Shaun Ellis, Kris Jenkins, and Mike Devito are the D line and they are pretty solid.

This team is also pretty set on special teams. Nick Folk will be the kicker, with Steve Weatherford as the punter. Brad Smith will return kicks, and Kyle Wilson will be the punt returner.
