2010 Dallas Cowboys season in review

With so many 6-10 NFL teams this year it gets a little hard to rank them all. The Dallas Cowboys were 6-10, they got Wade Phillips fired after he went just 1-7. Jason Garrett was brought in and he went 5-3. That seems to tell me that this is a very good NFL team, which quit on Phillips. Somehow, someway he lost this team. Of course the defense is awful, and that will have to be addressed if they ever want to be a legit threat.

While the defense was pretty awful the offense seemed to be just fine. They scored 394 points or 24.6 points per game that was 7th best amongst the 32 NFL teams. Of course Tony Romo only started six games for them at QB, and he was fairly ineffective. Jon Kitna stepped in and did what he could. The running game averaged 111 rushing yards per game, but something was clearly missing.

As I said the defense was terrible, like the second worst offense in the league giving up 436 points or 27.2 points per game. Amazingly enough they were at zero in take away differential. That means that got as many turnovers as they gave up. The defense racked up 35 sacks, and forced 14 fumbles. However they did give up over 243 passing yards per game and 108 yards rushing per game. Simply put that is not good enough.

Clearly rebuilding the defense is the priority, and there have been a few rumors that they are looking to deal last year’s first round draft pick WR Dez Bryant. Owner Jerry Jones is definitely part of the problem, but those problems run a lot deeper than him.
