The West Virginia Mountaineers will enter the 2010 College Football season as the 24th ranked team according to the Sporting News. In each of the past two seasons they have compiled 9 wins, and in 2001 they look to extend a home unbeaten streak. Of course to make all of that happen a lot of things are going to have to go right. All in all they look like a team that could contend fro a National Title, but that distinction is hardly set in stone.

Two sophomores will have to step up and take over the offensive in the wake of Jarrett Brown’s departure. Geno Smith and Coley White will have to step in and be productive if this team is going to have any chance at winning. We should remember that this team has won at least nine games in each of the past five seasons. Head Coach Bill Stewart has won nine games in each of his two seasons at this school, and he hopes he can put together a program that can contend for teh national title.

The key date on the West Virginia schedule is November 26th. That is when they will travel to Pittsburgh for the best rivalry game in the Big East Conference. Many College Football pundits think this will be the best football game of Thanksgiving weekend. Other than that this team faces tough tests at LSU, with Cincinnati at home, and with South Florida at home.

They have a very talented WR in Deon Long who make or may not be playing for this team. He spent 2009 at a prep school, and enrolled at West Virginia this January. He left the team in April, so his status in uncertain.
