2010 College Football Preview: Utah Utes

The Utah Utes will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #22 ranked team according to the Sporting News. This is one of those way out west teams, which play in a smaller conference that I do not have a really great read on. Sure they are good; they have won at least seven games in each of the past five seasons including a 13 win season in 2008. Their Head Coach, Ken Whittingham, is in his sixth year at the school, and has a 47-17 overall record. Those are all positive indicators.

I don’t like to judge a team by its competition, I think that is unfair and lazy, but let’s be honest the Utes will not play the hardest schedule out there. When I look at their schedule I see three key dates, September 2nd with Pittsburgh at home, November 6th with TCU at home, and November 13th at Notre Dame. If the Utes can win those three games, and then take care of business against the others on their schedule they could have a very good year.

They have an experienced offense led by the new go to guy in RB Eddie Wide. Wide was the backup in 2009, but by the end of the season he was the guy who this team relied on. Now he is a senior and he could go out and dominate this conference. This team returns eight offensive starters, including four along the offensive line. These are positive indicators that this team should do quite well.
