The LSU Tigers will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #20 ranked team according to the Sporting News. Just three years ago this team and head coach Les Miles were the National Champions. Since then they are just 17-9 and probably looking up at Alabama, and looking at a much improved Arkansas coming up to their level. From 2005 to 2007 this team won at least 11 games, since that title run they have only managed to win at least eight games. I think we are seeing a drop off, and considering the division they are in that could be an issue.
The Tigers have a pretty tough schedule; they open on the road at North Carolina and Vanderbilt. They will also travel to Florida and Auburn in October. The key date on their schedule may be the last game against Arkansas. Many feel that Arkansas is much improved, and they will get a chance to prove it against the Tigers on November 27th.
Most College Football pundits do not have a lot of faith in QB Jordan Jefferson. The book on him seems to be that he looks like a freshman QB in his Junior season. That could be an issue, and many LSU fans are pointing to 2011 as the year for this team to return to post season glory. The problem for Coach Miles is the standards at LSU have been set a high and 17 wins over two years just isn’t going to cut it. Another sub par year, by LSU standards, could have him looking for employment elsewhere. If Rich Rodriguez gets fired from Michigan maybe Miles would end up there.
