Canyons Chairlift Accident: Asha Davenport Dies After Falling from Park City Ski Lift

A college student has died after falling off a chair lift at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah.

The young woman, identified as 19-year-old Asha Davenport, had a seizure while riding the High Meadow Chairlift, which serves the beginner terrain, at 11:49am and fell from the lift – a reported 30-foot-drop.

According to witnesses, the ski patrol responded quickly and the woman received care on a medical helicopter en route to a hospital, but the woman was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

While an investigation into the chairlift fall is still ongoing, officials say the fatal accident was not the result of any equipment malfunction.

“The Canyons’ equipment did not malfunction and was functioning properly at the time,” Summit County sheriff’s detective Ron Bridge said Monday.

Bridge added that it wasn’t immediately clear if Davenport and her friends had been using the lift’s safety bar when she fell.

Asha Davenport’s tragic ski lift accident comes just 10 days after famed Olympic freestyle skiier Sarah Burke died on the same mountain due to a fall sustained while performing a trick.
