Robert Pattinson’s Twilight character is the inspiration for BDSM-obsessed billionaire Christian Grey, so obviously everyone wants to know the actor’s thoughts on the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. He’s talked about E.L. James’ erotic novel before, and what he’s saying now differs a bit from what he said a few years ago.
During a recent interview with Reuters, Robert Pattinson was asked how he feels about Fifty Shades of Grey being inspired by Twilight. The actor responded by claiming that he’s pretty clueless about Christian Grey’s world.
“I haven’t actually read the book but I think it must be very, very different,” he said. “I don’t see how it can work if it’s not different. It’s amazing; it’s that fan base. There’s some kind of profound connection that a bunch of people have to it and I’ve never figured out quite what it is.”
Robert is obviously trying to play it cool by pretending that he doesn’t know what happens in E. L. James’ book. However, he doesn’t need to peruse the erotic novel to know what goes down between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the Red Room of Pain — he already read James’ racy story back when it was free internet fanfiction published under the pseudonym “Snowqueens Icedragon.”
According to E! Online, Robert Pattinson even knew the title that Fifty Shades of Grey was originally published under. During a 2012 interview for MTV’s The Yes/No Show, he was asked if he had read any Twilight fanfiction. Pattinson seemed pretty proud when he answered in the affirmative.
“I read a bit of the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ one before it was ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,'” he told host Josh Horowitz. “Yeah, ‘Masters of the Universe.'”
You can check out Rob’s admission below. Many Fifty Shades fans wanted the actor to play Christian Grey, so it’s not surprising that he was tempted to check out James’ original work.
Unfortunately, Rob didn’t reveal whether he’s planning on watching the Fifty Shades movie, but he did tell Reuters that he’s close pals with Christian Grey.
“It’s kind of weird,” he said. “I’ve known Jamie for about 10 years.”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jamie Dornan has confirmed this friendship forged in fandom heaven.
“I don’t remember what we talked about the last time I saw him,” Dornan said of the bromance that will make millions of ovaries explode. “I think we just got drunk.”
Do you think Robert Pattinson will watch his pal in Fifty Shades of Grey, and are you still disappointed that Rob didn’t get Jamie’s role?
