US Weapons Causing Birth Defects In Fallujah

Weapons used by the United States in Fallujah have led to a horrifying number of birth defects according to local doctors and a recently concluded study. Study’s since the 2004 attacks on the area have connected American white phosphorous and depleted uranium weapons to birth defects inside the Iraqi city, however the new study is the most comprehensive to date.

According to the Al Jazeera news network hair samples taken from parents with deformed children were shown to contain uranium, a substance that is known to cause cancer and other neurological and symptomatic problems.

The study has found a 12-fold rise in children’s cancer cases since 2004 with a birth defect rate of 14.7%. In comparison after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings the rate was still closer to just 1% to 2%.

Among some of the worst birth defects discovered have been elongated heads, overgrown limbs, and a baby with an eye in the middle of its face.

Speaking to Al Jazeera one grandfather of an affected children proclaimed:

“Why is the government not investigating this, Western media seem interested, but neither our local media nor the government are. Why not?”‘

Mohamed Jaleel Abdul Rahim, a father of a child born with birth defects says of the conditions in the area:

“One of them was born and looks like a fish,” and “I also personally know of at least three other families who live near us who have these problems also.”

Do you think the United States needs to act in a timely manner to help and educate people living in the area about the effects US weapons are having on births.
