Amazon Redesigns Website For Tablet Use, Prepares Tablet Of Their Own

With Amazon expected to roll out a new Amazon Kindle tablet that runs on Google Android, possibly as early as October, the site took a major step on Sunday, rolling out a new website design that is meant to lure in more tablet and Smartphone users.

Amazon shoppers will quickly realize that the blue-and-orange navigation bar along the left side of the website has been replaced with more open, white space, while an emphasis is now being placed on digital products.

The new open design is meant to make it easier for Tablet and Smartphone users to browse the site since it allows customers with smaller displays to more easily find information on their screens.

One former Amazon manager told the Wall Street Journal:

“As shoppers migrate to smaller, more interactive screens such as tablets, making the content dynamic and personalized to each individual consumer becomes overwhelmingly important,” while adding, “And that’s just what this redesign does—it puts those features front and center.”

While the move to optimize for smaller displays shouldn’t surprise anyone, the fact that Amazon made the change right before the holiday shopping season begins may come as a surprise to some analysts who closely watch the company and their $34 billion in revenue as the gift giving part of the year begins to arrive.

It will be interesting to see how the 7-inch Amazon Kindle tablet stacks up to other devices and it will be just as interesting to see how consumers take to the newly redesigned Amazon website.
