Those who watch Germany vs. Algeria football live stream on Monday will have a chance to see a repeat of the infamous (or famous) match at the 1982 World Cup. In that fateful day, the powerful Germans — the reigning European champions — fell against the surprising Greens in ther first match of the groups stage.
Now, 32-years later, Germany has a chance to avenge the humiliating loss to a team that was making its debut in the World Cup. Anyone that knows anything about football, knows that Germany is one of the most feared teams in any tournament, but in 1982 that didn’t matter to a determined Algeria, which had their best World Cup appearance. Germany was later accused of contriving with Austria to eliminate Algeria in the groups stage.
On paper, Germany shouldn’t have any problems ensuring Algeria exits the 2014 World Cup, however, the African nation is not to be underestimated, even though they struggled to reach the second spot in their groups stage. Incredibly, 1982 wasn’t the only time Germany lost to Algeria, who have won both previous matches between the nations and have scored four goals compared to one from Germany.
Fans who watch Germany vs. Algeria football live stream will see the Greens’ speed in action and Germany hasn’t looked as strong as they did in their debut match against Portugal in the groups stage. The game against the United States, played in a torrential downpour showed some vulnerabilities in the European team.
Coming into the 2014 World Cup, Germany was being considered the big favorite to win the title, however, other teams have emerged and are now a serious threat to those beliefs. Captain Philipp Lahm understands the importance of this match:
“We’re in the knockout phase – either you deliver or you go home. Germany have been world champions three times and there aren’t that many teams who can say that.”
“We have had great teams in the past and this squad has great potential, but we have to take it a round at a time and play aggressively. I think we are the better team, but we have to prove that on the pitch.”
As with the match between France and Nigeria, weather conditions will be factor.
