Miesha Tate Slams Ronda Rousey, Says WWE And Movies Make A Joke Of Women’s MMA

Ronda Rousey and her blooming movie career will make women’s MMA a joke… at least according to fellow UFC fighter Miesha Tate.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, even UFC President Dana White says Floyd Mayweather Jr. would lose to Ronda Rousey. The boxing world also had a recent challenge when Tate claimed she’d “choke out” Shane Mosley with her ground game.

The possibility that Ronda Rousey would join the WWE has been rumored for a while, and has been fueled by statements made by the women’s UFC champ herself. Back when Rousey was fangasming all over CM Punk, she also revealed she had been doing some wrestling training with other women. When a spot recently opened up in WWE’s The Shield, some tweets sent Ronda’s way suggested she could become the third member of the group. She was agreeable to the concept. But while this is an interesting idea, it seems more likely that the mystery man for The Shield is likely to be someone else.

In addition to a potential WWE career, Rousey is also appearing in The Expendables 3, Fast & Furious 7, and a big screen adaptation of the HBO hit Entourage. While she is starting to get some movie contracts, Rousey has a long way to go until she can match someone like Dave Batista, who is starring as a lead role in Guardian Of The Galaxy. Even Ronda believes her movie career hinges on her continuing success in the UFC, including the match against Alexis Davis:

“The only thing I care about is beating Alexis. My whole fighting career and my whole Hollywood career depend on it…. All July, I will be doing the song and dance to promote ‘The Expendables 3.'”

She’s so busy nowadays that showing up for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival was described as a “last-minute thing,” although Dana White put it this way:

“It was a big deal. A lot of strings were pulled with some heavy hitters in Hollywood to make sure she was there. Pretty impressive.”

Unfortunately, Miesha Tate is not so impressed and thinks that Rousey’s looks and Hollywood status are actually dragging down women’s MMA. Speaking about Rousey vs Gina Carano, Tate lashed out:

“The only thing that drives that is they’re both attractive. It makes the women’s title hold no value. It makes it look like it’s a joke and they just put whatever’s going to sell. If we’re going to really legitimize women’s MMA as a sport and have it respected as a sport, then you have to treat it as such….women’s MMA has been working to legitimize ourselves for so long, and we finally broke the ice, we’re finally in the UFC, and we’re getting some credibility. Don’t take that away by putting a fight together that is based entirely on looks and has little to nothing to do with skill set.”

Of course, Tate and Rousey have notoriously been long time rivals, so perhaps it’s not surprising to hear Tate dismiss the other women’s success. According to UFC co-creator Campbell McLaren, it’s a good thing that Rousey is opening up the MMA to a new audience:

“She’s the first fighter to open up a new audience to the UFC and MMA. She’s smart, she can talk, she’s tough. She has real fight credentials. She’s got it all…. The stuff Ronda says is amazing.”

Do you think Ronda Rousey’s movies and WWE potential could make women’s MMA a joke?
