A Christian school biology teacher in Deerfield Beach, Florida created what parents are calling the biggest scandal ever to hit the private, religious Zion Lutheran Christian high school when he was arrested, after being caught with a 14-year-old girl — a student at the Christian school — in the back of car parked behind a strip mall.
After getting a call about suspicious activity in the car at about 4:15 in the afternoon Tuesday, police arrived to find the vehicle with sun visors covering the front and back windshield and a shirt slung over the front seats to act as a canopy to obscure what was going on on the back.
The cops found the 14-year-old naked from the waist down and 24-year-old Eric Beasely, a state-certified teacher, rushing to get his clothes on. Beasley was arrested and later told police that he had performed oral sex on the 14-year-old Christian school student.
He also admitted that he began a sexual relationship with the underage girl on Valentine’s Day this year, and had engaged in sex with her on several occasions, both in his car and in his Plantation, Florida, apartment.
Beasley was arrested and charged with nine counts of sexual battery or sexual acts by a custodian — in other words, an adult charged with the supervision of a minor — as well as two counts of sending obscene material to a minor.
With permission from the arrested Christian school teacher, police examined images stored on his cell phone. On the phone they found a digital photograph of Beasley’s genitalia, as well as a video of Beasley engaged in a solo sexual act. Investigators found that Beasley has “sexted” the image and video to the 14-year-old.
Beasley was released on a $92,000 bond Wednesday, but Zion Lutheran Christian School Headmaster Phillippe Dupont said the teacher would not be returning to work. He has been placed on unpaid leave, Dupont said.
“Our primary concern is always the psychological and physical safety of our students,” said the Christian school headmaster. “I am most concerned about being able to provide uninterrupted education for our students during this whole process. We’re going to work directly and cooperate fully with the authorities throughout this investigation.”
A similar case hit the Christian school in 2005 when a 23-year-old baseball coach was arrested on charges that he had sex with a 15-year-old student.
“I’m pulling my kids out,” said parent Nakenya Robinson, who has four children in Zion Lutheran Christian School. “Do you know how much it costs to go to this school?”
