F 18 Crash in San Diego (update 3 dead)

An F-18 jet crashed in a residential area of San Diego around noon local time today (Monday) as it prepared to land at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The F18 pilot is said to have ejected from his plane moments before it crashed near Interstate 805.

At the time of writing it is not known if anyone on the ground is injured, although reports suggest at least two cars and one house are on fire with the Fire Department in attendance.

The F-18 is a jet used widely in the Navy and Marine Corps and by the Navy’s stunt-flying Blue Angels.

More when we have it.

Update: three people on the ground were killed in a home on Cather Avenue near Huggins Street. Identities not yet known.
