Monopoly Token Vote Finalized: ‘The Cat’ Replaces ‘The Iron’ In Classic Board Game

The people have spoken. The Monopoly Token vote has been finalized, and the classic game has revealed its new game piece. Ladies and gentleman, welcome “The Cat.”

Of course, in order to make room for the cat, Monopoly had to take a vote to see which token would be getting the boot. Speaking of, the boot, the iron, and the wheelbarrow were all in the bottom three toward the end of the token vote. But, when all the votes were tallied, it was revealed that the iron would be cut from the game.

The “Save Your Token” contest on Facebook lasted for nearly a month. Monopoly fans voted to save the car, thimble, dog, battleship, hat, wheelbarrow, and boot but decided to replace the iron with the cat.

Jonathan Berkowitz, vice president of marketing for Hasbro Gaming, told ABC:

“It’s been an exciting campaign and a lot of Monopoly fans around the world have gotten involved … Because there’s a Scottie dog, there was always a conversation about, ‘Should there be a cat?’ so that’s how it ended up being one of the options for the voting …. We chose all of the new token options by really listening to our fans and hearing what they were talking about.”

Berkowitz said that the new version of Monopoly, which will feature a cat instead of an iron, will be released this Fall.

Are you happy with the results of the Monopoly token vote?

No, why make a change? Glad I still have my original game with all the RIGHT pieces including the iron!

  4. No. I don't mind they added the cat but to take away a piece just changed the whole game. It's not a classic anymore.

Why change it? It's a game- what's next? Will they make an APP for this too?
