As the world settled back to normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic, which was nothing but a major global nightmare, recent news claims cases of the deadly virus are back again. As few countries see a continuing spike in COVID-19 cases, an age-old prediction by a Japanese manga (graphic novels and comics) artist has now resurfaced.

Often dubbed the ‘Baba Vanga of Japan,’ Ryo Tatsuki reportedly predicted the re-emergence of a deadly virus ten years after 2020 in her 1999 book—a claim now gaining renewed attention.  Reportedly, in her book ‘The Future As I See It,’ Ryo Tatsuki documented a series of prophetic dreams. One of which was, “An unknown virus will come in 2020, will disappear after peaking in April, and appear again 10 years later.”

As per a report,, back in the late 90s, the prediction seemed like fiction, and no one really cared, but COVID-19 emerged globally in early 2020 and peaked in many countries by April. However, with time, Baba Vanga’s words garnered massive attention. As of 2025, recent cases have people fearing that her prediction has indeed come true. While there’s no scientific backing for these claims, people seem to fear that history might repeat itself yet again.

In the book, Baba Vanga didn’t just mention a possible outbreak but also claimed that it would be a much more powerful variant, which would cause worldwide devastating havoc once again.

For those wondering about Baba Vanga, please note that there are two Baba Vangas. The Original Baba Vanga (real name Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova), who happens to be blind, was a Bulgarian native who rose to fame as a mystic healer, the one who claimed to have foreseen the future.

She died in 1996 at 85 and was known for her stark ability to witness major future events like Princess Diana’s and Freddie Mercury’s deaths and World War I and II. Meanwhile, Ryo Tatsuki, a manga artist by profession, gained notoriety for publishing a collection of dreams and suspicions that some claim have come true.

Hence, she’s named Baba Vanga or the (new Baba Vanga), since her COVID-19 predictions’ timing aligns with those of the late, old Bulgarian lady. (The OG Baba Vanga).  However, what’s gobsmacking is that Ryo Tatsuki wasn’t the only duplicate Baba Vanga to predict a second Covid-19 outbreak, but the popular artist from Japan also predicted another possibility of a fatal natural disaster.

As per Newsx media reports, Vangeliya’s interpretations of her visions included a massive underwater rift between Japan and the Philippines that could trigger a tsunami three times more mighty than the 2011 disaster. She reportedly described the ocean “boiling” south of Japan, which seems to be a very disturbing thought for many.

Currently, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India reports 1,009 active COVID cases nationwide as of May 2025. Most patients are recovering from the typical method of home isolation, and no severe cases have been reported as yet. Therefore, health experts insist there is no need to panic at the moment and treat the virus like a common flu, which is said to be a part of life, just like a common cold.

Yet, with new variants like the LF.7 series, XFG series, JN.1 series, and NB.1.8.1 series emerging (via PTI), awareness and precaution remain the only major keys to follow.  As for speculation theories and predictions, what can we say? They have become the new way for social media users to keep the gossip and the banter alive in their lives.

Prophecies are nothing but mere coincidences or simple forewarnings that could be worth a thought; either way, they keep the mystery and buzz in place. Don’t they?
