Wyoming Representative Harriet Hageman ended a town hall meeting in Casper and walked off the stage to boos after constituents questioned her about President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown and the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis this month.
Hageman, a Republican, spoke at Casper College’s Wheeler Concert Hall while several police officers stood nearby. Audience members lined up at microphones to ask her questions. The exchange escalated as attendees wanted to know why she had not condemned the violence or offered condolences to the families of Alex Pretti and Renée Good, according to WyoFile.
A young man, claiming to be a Casper College student, challenged Hageman about the killings. Hageman replied, “I haven’t talked about that. I spoke about the Laken Riley Act because it was one of the bills we passed. I haven’t talked about what was going on in Minnesota.” The student responded, “Yeah. Why is that? Why haven’t you said that you condemn the violence or given condolences to the families of the victims?”
Hageman spoke as the crowd reacted negatively. “It hasn’t been the topic we’ve been discussing today,” she said. “So I think what happened in Minnesota is a terrible tragedy for the woman and the man who were killed,” WyoFile reported. The student then left, shouting remarks at the congresswoman as some in the room applauded.
I enjoyed touring the Fort Caspar Museum today!
It was especially great to meet a group of 8th graders from Platte County School District who were visiting the museum. Thank you to the Fort Caspar staff who work to preserve these stories for future generations. pic.twitter.com/LrpvfseYIg

Another Casper resident, Allyse Taylor, continued the questioning. She asked whether Hageman was concerned about possible violations of Fourth Amendment protections against warrantless searches and seizures during immigration enforcement. WyoFile reported that some audience members also shouted about a Department of Homeland Security internal memo they claimed involved warrantless entries.
“I think that I have to look at the investigation,” Hageman responded, causing laughter from parts of the audience, WyoFile noted. “If there were violations of someone’s constitutional rights, there is a way to seek justice.” Taylor then urged Hageman to demand transparency in the investigations of the Minneapolis shootings. “They are killing American citizens in the streets, and you are doing nothing. You are not saying a single thing to support constituents or the American people,” Taylor said, according to WyoFile.
Hageman then gathered her folders, waved goodbye, and exited through a side door with several minutes left in the scheduled hour, WyoFile reported. The audience booed, and one man shouted “coward” and “chickenshit,” according to the outlet. About a dozen people were still waiting to ask questions when she left.
This confrontation took place as federal officials in Minnesota have described changes to immigration enforcement tactics following the two shootings and weeks of protests. Reuters reported that Trump’s border enforcement lead, Tom Homan, stated the administration would move toward more targeted operations and cut back on some street-level activity while continuing immigration arrests. Internal ICE guidance encouraged agents to de-escalate and limit their interactions with protesters.
Hageman spent the first part of the Casper event discussing her work in Congress and the funding she claimed to have helped secure for local projects, including money for the Casper airport and infrastructure in Wyoming communities, according to WyoFile. This was her first town hall of the year, and she mentioned plans to visit each of Wyoming’s 23 counties annually.
