What started as a routine trip to the movies turned into a life-changing mission for TikTok user Brooklyn Green. After capturing a moment at her local cinema, Green successfully rallied the internet to raise a staggering $146,000 for an elderly employee, forever reshaping both of their lives after sharing the video.

While speaking with 6 News, the cinegoer identified as Brooklyn Green shared that she visited the AMC in Maryville to watch a movie. While she was leaving, she saw an elderly woman named Mary Ellen Eron working hard. Not knowing anything about her or her name, she still decided to help the elderly woman.

“I aspired to be like her one day. Her physical appearance didn’t look too comfortable, especially since she was working so hard. So I just decided, let’s shoot our shot. Let’s try to retire her and thought just a couple friends would donate,” she said.

The TikTok user, Green, had apparently set a target of $200,000, but the fundraiser quickly gained momentum, and she was able to raise the amount, which exceeded her expectations. The GoFundMe was closed on Tuesday night upon Mary’s request. She stated that the fundraiser grew so quickly that the elderly woman had already received the news even before she could surprise her with the news herself.

On Wednesday, Green experienced the culmination of her digital crusade. She posted a follow-up video capturing the exact moment she handed a slip of paper with the final fundraising total to the octogenarian.

Mary was stunned into disbelief upon seeing the figure, exclaiming, “Oh my goodness. That’s a lot of money.” Green was right there to reassure her, telling Mary that she deserved every single penny.

The video clip also included a special message from Eron, who expressed her gratitude towards the people who donated the money. She said, “I’m overwhelmed and certainly blessed by the Lord and you wonderful people. Thank you once more.”

Beyond the financial donations, the TikTok user was deeply moved by the outpouring of supportive comments from people who couldn’t contribute money. Expressing her gratitude, she said, “I’m just thankful they trusted me with those funds and to give those to her.” 

Though the choice to retire is entirely up to Mary, her manager noted that she genuinely loves her work, having dedicated 45 years to the theater industry. Renowned for her giving spirit, the octogenarian has spent decades working hard to support her mother and children, all while facing housing instability.

The act of kindness melted the hearts of internet users as well, where one of the many comments read, “The internet gets a lot of criticism, but moments like this remind us how powerful kindness can be when thousands of strangers come together.”
