The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Flexes Its Full Muscles With Updated Windows 10 Preview

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 is the biggest-selling and most critically-acclaimed laptop/tablet hybrid of the past year. However, the highly-maligned Windows 8.1 operating system has, according to many, hurt an otherwise perfect device.

Some users have upgraded their Surface Pro 3 with a preview version of Windows 10 during the past nine months, but the experience comes with a lot of heartache. Surface Pro 3 Windows 10 users have tried to put their device into Sleep mode, but it ends up awakening and completely draining the battery. Some users have had other power management issues, as well as issues with the accuracy of the digital pen. One can’t criticize Microsoft for this, given that Windows 10 has only been a beta release — this means that full stability should have never been expected.

Fortunately, Microsoft has just released an updated preview for Windows 10 and critics are praising how will it works with the Surface Pro 3. Gizmag is very impressed.

“Based on our time with the latest preview, we think it could transform the Surface into the futuristic mobile productivity device that Microsoft has been trying to build for years.”

Gizmag notes how Windows automatically switches between Tablet and Desktop mode based on whether or not the keyboard is attached. Before this Windows 10 preview, one had to manually change the mode in the settings. The new update also works with the cheaper Surface 3, which worked so badly with Windows 10 that Microsoft adamantly suggested that Surface 3 buyers not upgrade to Windows 10.

The Windows 10 update is automatically included as part of the new Surface Pro 3 (and regular Surface 3) software update that was released on Tuesday. WinBeta descibes Microsoft’s update.

“The change log of the updates for Surface Pro 3 include some Windows 10 support, WiFi/Bluetooth driver update, and SATA controller driver updates. The Surface 3 sees updates to almost every piece of hardware, including cover, graphics, audio, WiFi/Bluetooth, pen, and camera.

There is one major problem with the Surface Pro 3 update. It appears, after several attempts to connect the Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse through Bluetooth, the drivers don’t work. Let’s hope Microsoft acknowledges this problem; the Wedge Touch Mouse, even if it costs extra, is one of the best aspects of the Surface Pro 3.

Microsoft is preparing the Surface Pro 4 , which many believe will be released with the consumer version of Windows 10 that arrives on July 29. There are some sources that say the device will be less powerful with the use of an Intel M mobile processor, but others believe the device will contain an even more powerful Intel Core i5 processor for the low-end models and an updated Intel Core i7 one for the high-end models. Buying a Surface Pro 3 right now is certainly tempting, but one may want to hold out for just one more month in order to get the Surface Pro 4.
