The Good Wife fans will need to brace themselves for another difficult goodbye as another core cast member is leaving the show. Unlike what happened with Josh Charles last season, this time around fans at least now know a bit ahead of time. Who has decided that it is time to move on to a new project?
Deadline shares the big The Good Wife spoiler tidbit that Archie Panjabi, who plays Kalinda Sharma, is leaving the show. Panjabi has been a cast member since the CBS show’s pilot, and she is now heading elsewhere. It seems her contract is up after this season, and she’s been thinking about moving on for a while now.
The show’s creators, Robert and Michelle King, praise Archie for the “enigmatic, powerful, and sexy character” she’s created in Kalinda. They note that she has been a pleasure to write for and they are sad she’s leaving. Luckily, The Good Wife fans don’t have to bid Sharma farewell quite yet.
Panjabi is sticking around for the reason of season 6, which is airing now Sunday nights on CBS. Just how will Kalinda be written out of the show? Naturally any ideas regarding the plan on that one will be kept under wraps for as long as possible. This show managed what few others can do when they stunned their viewers by killing off Charles’ character , Will Gardner, in the middle of season 5. They kept it an absolute secret and stunned viewers in the process.
Will Kalinda meet a vicious and violent end as well? It would seem fitting given all she’s been through, but the show does seem to try to go places that viewers don’t expect. No matter how Panjabi leaves, The Good Wife fans will certainly miss her.
What comes next for Archie Panjabi ? As TVLine notes, she is going to be headlining a drama pilot that will be made available for the 2015-16 television season. Panjabi signed a development deal with 20 th Century Fox TV, but little else is known yet about what will come together for her new show. A deal for a new show at least is good news for fans who would love the opportunity to follow her to something else.
At this point it’s not known how long the CBS staple Sunday night show will run for, or what additional cast changes may be coming down the pipeline. Fans will definitely miss Archie Panjabi on The Good Wife and they will be anxious to see how the exit of Kalinda Sharma is handled.
