Apparently Lindsey Vonn isn’t the only person causing a stir by “Tebowing.”
Four student-athletes at Riverhead High School in Long Island, NY, were disciplined this week for imitating popular Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow’s trademark prayer kneel.
The NY Post reports that twin brothers Tyler and Connor Carroll along with their classmates Jordan Fulcoly and Wayne Drexel were hit with one-day suspensions for “tebowing” in their school’s hallways for three consecutive days.
According to school administrators, the boys were punished because they created an unsafe environment by blocking the halls when dozens of other students followed their lead.
“This is not about religious discrimination,” Riverhead School District Superintendent Nancy Carney told the Post. “It is about being sure kids are able to get to class on time and keeping the kids safe and orderly.”
Carroll Connor, the alleged leader of pack that planned the prank, said the school’s decision was unjust.
“I just don’t think it’s fair,” said Connor, 17. “It was basically just a tribute to Tim Tebow. There was no pushing or shoving.”
Although the school said they gave the students a warning prior to handing out suspensions Carroll claimed “we were never given any warning. They said they did, but that’s completely false.”
