Texas preschool teacher was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at another female driver during an altercation, which escalated due to heated road rage on Wednesday.

Authorities said Latashia Deswan Walker County, 51, pulled a firearm at the driver during their confrontation. The alleged victim called the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident, after which officers located Walker County. Under Texas law, intentionally pointing a gun without justification is a serious crime and a second-degree felony. It is legally justified only if done in self-defense or defense of others.

After prolonged questioning, the preschool teacher admitted to pointing a gun during the argument. Latashia Deswan Walker County was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and later released on a $50,000 bond. According to AOL, after her release, Walker County shared a cryptic social media post thanking the almighty for her release and well-being.

She wrote, “Thank God for what didn’t happen.” She also reposted a message encouraging people to focus on “cleaning up your spirit” instead of worrying about “an image.”According to the San Antonio Report, Latashia Deswan worked as a teacher at the tuition-free charter school called Essence Preparatory Public School.

However, the school is set to shut down at the end of the year due to poor academic performance over several years. School officials were informed of the decision in a Dec. 18 letter from Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath, who stated the charter school had “academically unacceptable ratings.”

The charter school currently enrolls about 400 kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. According to state accountability ratings, the school received an F grade in 2022-23, a D in 2023-24, and another F in 2024-25. Under Texas law, a charter can lose its license if it receives three failing ratings within five years.

Founder and superintendent Akeem Brown said the school wouldn’t appeal the board’s decision because doing so require significant financial resources with little chance of success. Instead, officials plan to focus on supporting students through the remaining session.

“The process is costly. It’s resources we would rather use this year to focus on kids and strengthen their academics,” Brown said, noting appeals rarely succeed. Parents described the closure as heartbreaking and damaging for the community. One parent called it “a humongous loss” for the neighborhood, which cherished the school environment.

Meanwhile, school leaders are now working with the School Discovery Network to help families transition students into other schools. An open house is planned to assist parents with enrollment options, and administrators said they hope every student will have a transition plan in place before the school’s final day of classes on June 3, 2026.

Essence Preparatory Public School initially operated out of churches and community centers before relocating to its permanent campus, which was built using a $17.7 million bond secured because of the school’s mission and vision. Aside from academics, the school also provided free uniforms, free meals, technical programmes, and other similar types of perks.
